Tent News
April 2008
Tent #19 President, Judith Jaeger, stood with other DUVCW participants in Springfield, Illinois for the Fifty-Second Annual Lincoln Tomb Ceremony, commemorating the 143rd Anniversary of President Lincoln’s Death. The cold rainy morning of April 12th was made brighter by sounds of a Civil War band that played for posting of the colors and regimental flags. Lincoln’s tomb is a revered place of remembrance -
"The friends of Liberty and of the Union will repair to it in years and ages to come, to pronounce the memory of its occupant blessed, and, gathering from his very ashes, and from the rehearsal of his deeds and virtues, fresh incentives to patriotism, they will there renew their vows of fidelity to their country and their God."*
Several Civil War heritage groups took part in the Saturday ceremony, the first of several to be held during the days of remembrance, through April 15th. The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861 – 1865 were represented by Ruth Funck, Past National President, who carried the special wreath of remembrance to the ascending steps of the monument.
