On Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) monument was unveiled by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War at Rose Hill cemetery, Tulsa.

Six members of the Elizabeth Bacon Custer Tent # 19, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War were present. A wreath was placed by Carol Cox, Tent Junior Vice President. Also present and placing a wreath were members of the Auxillary to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Rachel Cormany Auxillary #2.

Approximately 10,000 Union veterans are buried in Oklahoma with thirty-four at Rose Hill.
Monies for the monument's cost of $8,000 were raised through private donations.
Firing a volley to honor the occassion were re-enactors representing the 77th Pennslyvania Color Guard.
